Advanced Pressure Concepts
Advanced Pressure Concepts
The principal objective of this course is to teach participants how pressure can be predicted in complex geological settings as well as being used for seal breach analysis and the understanding of hydrodynamic plays. The course employs a mix of lectures and practical exercises to help students to gain a greater understanding into the complexities of pressure prediction and the effects of pressure on the hydrocarbon system.
Course content
Advanced prediction methods applied to logs:
Pore pressure prediction – Basics Refresher
Refinement of existing methods
Recognising unloading in shales
Chemical compaction processes
Pressure prediction methods summary
Advanced prediction techniques:
Handling variable clay content in shales
Basin modelling principles
Palaeopressure analysis
Advanced applications:
Seal breach analysis and trap integrity (with case study)
Carbonates and evaporites
Shale gas including basin-centered gas
Hydrodynamic systems
An introduction to HPHT well planning
Case studies used in the course are from a variety of classic overpressured basins worldwide.
Training instructors
The Advanced Pore Pressure Prediction course is instructed by
Dr. Richard Lahann
and
Professor Richard Swarbrick
, the Managing Director of Ikon GeoPressure.
Who should attend?
This advanced training course is designed for geologists, geophysicists, petrophysicists and reservoir/drilling engineers with an interest in overpressure and high-pressure reservoirs, who wish to deepen their knowledge and understanding of pore pressure prediction and study advanced techniques for handling complex settings. Due to the advanced nature of this course we recommend that participants have attended
Pressures and Overpressure in the Subsurface
, a similar pressure-related course or have a good working knowledge of oilfield practices and pressure prediction.
Course duration
The Advanced Pressure Concepts course is run over 3 days.
